If you live there or spend any amount of time there and don´t speak much Spanish, it´s worth joining Helicopteros Sanitarios.

I think it´s about €120 for an individual membership, and €300 for a family,per year. They offer health checks, but possibly more reassuring is that they will come out to you in all of Andalucía in either ambulance or helicopter, always have an English speaking doctor at the scene and will repatriate you if you´d like.

If you are a resident of a European country then your local health clinic will give you a free check up, many of them in fact have special over 60s clinics.

Just nip along to your local one and enquire.

If you bring an E-112 form with you, you will be covered by the spanish social security service, and will be able to go to the nearest one to where you will be residing for any medical needs...

If not you will need a private insurance to handle your checkups.
