  1. It would help to know what country you're in.

For the USA try these websites:

Free help for first-time inventors about how to go from idea to patenting, marketing and licensing.

    http://www.asktheinventors.com/

    United Inventors Association

United Inventors Association, Inventor Resource Internet Pages. Information about inventing, inventors, obtaining a patent, evaluation, marketing and avoiding invention fraud etc.

    http://www.uiausa.org/

You could also google The Inventors Association in your area.

  2. There are a lot of scamers out there, so you have to be careful.

    Check these sites: http://inventors.about.com/od/firststeps...

    http://www.uspto.gov/web/patents/howtopa...

There are other sites, but make you that is says .gov in the name.

  3. The first thing anyone should do when they believe they have invented something is to check the U.S. Patent Records(assuming you're from the U.S.) to make sure no one else has thought of the same exact thing and gotten a patent on it. If there is nothing in the patent records, then you should apply for a patent, which I believe requires at least a detailed drawing of the object, and/or a detailed summary of the product or service.

After that, you need to build a prototype and try to sell it.
