I can think of about 100 places in the SE USA to do that. Theres probably 100s more if you look. Try Google with search words like camp,boat,water. Half the public campgrounds in the US are near large bodies of water.

Many campgrounds in Michigan. Fresh clean water. Pretty sure in this state you are never more than 20 miles away from a lake. Higgins lake is an inland lake for smaller boats and very family friendly. State park with lots of campsites, but book it early! Algonac State park has lots of campsites and a bike trail for kids. A beach and boat launch too. The river is big, but there is pretty good fishing there. Smaller boats are everywhere...just watch the sky for weather!

Try taking your family and dropping them off at the WMCA, then take your boat to the nearest fishing hole and camp out a few days...
