i leave mine out for the bums to collect, they need the money more than me!

You can smash them, get a lot of them and call a company that recycle metal. They'll pay you that by the weight!

I donate my cans to the ASPCA. they recycle them and collect the money for the animals.

You might call your garbage collection company and see if they have a recycling program.  Here in the Washington State all we have to do is wash the cans out, put them in a specially marked recycling container and then put them on the curb on garbage day.  A special recycling truck comes along picks them up for recycling.  Same with paper and plastic.
