  1. If you could persuade the Pope to grant you a divorce, sure. Otherwise Christian men could not. Muslim men can and could have up to 4. But the rich and powerful could also see to it that their wife had an "accident" or went into the nunnery.


  2. No the were not. Marriage in the upper classes was an important dynastic matter - in other words marriages were undertaken, not for love, but to cement alliances between families and countries

Nope.  While poligamy has popped its head up from time to time in Western Civilization, the Bible's pretty well against it, therefore so have been the societies of Christianized Europe.  If your wondering about the pagan Germanic and Celtic tribe, I don't know, but their period of relevance pre-dates "feudal" Europe.
