hi we woke up this morning to find our electrics had tripped so we tried all the appliance's and found out what the problem was, the boiler has broken down. The trouble is we are on a very low income with only one of us working and we have two small children, one being 2 and the other only 6 Weeks old so we need our hot water and will need the heating once the cold weather kicks in. but we cant afford a new boiler or afford for someone to come out and deal with it for us. so i was wondering if anyone knows if there is any help we can get or how to go about it

  1. if you own or have a mortgage you should have household insurance, have a look at policy you may be covered for such an emergency,if you are with a council or landlord it should be fixed by them free, hope this helps,

  2. You say you are on a low income? Are you receiving benefits of any kind? If so, contact your nearest social security office ( or ask at your nearest Citizens Advice Bureau), and ask about the' Eager' scheme. This is where new boilers, or central heating systems  ( even new kitchens or bathrooms in some instances) are fitted free of charge for the elderly, or for people receiving certain benefits.

Also, in certain circumstances, if you are reciving benefits, there is an emergency fund, where you can get a short-term loan to pay for something such as this.

Failing that, I can only suggest that you ring around, and hopefully find a sympathetic plumber who is maybe willing to let you pay him over a period of time.  My husband is a plumber, and would often do this for the elderly.....and this is how I know about the Eager Scheme.....he is currently working on this scheme in the Stratford area of London, where everything is being spruced up in time for The Olympics!

As you have such a young baby....I think I would appeal to Social ( or ask the CAB ) for help anyway!

    Good luck!

  3. Have you tried your local public assistance office? With small children you should qualify for some food programs. Your family may also qualify for some type of supplemental income assistance. From there they should be able to guild you to somebody who can help with home repairs. I know there is an energy assistance program but that is usually for the cost of heating. You may also want to try local charities and churches. Good luck.

  4. Have a look at this link:

  5. So you are on a very low income and can't afford to have someone to look at your problem. Yet you obviously have a computer and access to the internet. My solution would be that you sell your computer, cancel your ISP provider and use the money to solve your problems.

  6. first of all....david l ur a real jerk....!!!! internet is £10 a week so pull ya head in...just because people have a low income DOESN'T means they don't have the right to have things they want!!!! people like you make me angry:@

ok....lol are you in a council property or recieving child tax credits? If you are to one or both of these then there is help available to you so ring them up and see what they say:D good luck hope you get it sorted x
