“We’re still at a point where we’re working through some issues,” says Red Sox GM Cherington
The Boston Red Sox have still not confirmed the finalisation of deal with Mike Napoli after agreeing to a three-year $39 million potential deal draft. It has been reported that the Red Sox want another clause in it that will give them room to validate Mike Napoli’s uncertain situation regarding injuries.
“We’re still at a point where we’re working through some issues,” Red Sox GM Ben Cherington said. “That’s all I can say at this point.”
“Every time we sign a free agent, any sort of guaranteed deal, there are a number of things you have to come to agreement on and get resolved,” Cherington said abstractly. “Some of it’s contract language and some of it’s terms and money, et cetera. And then there’s the physical. As has been our policy, until every aspect of the agreement gets resolved, we’re not in a position to comment on it.”
Napoli has been on the disabled list five times since his start of the career while now the Red Sox want to make sure over their new signing’s potential future status regarding his health. They deal is yet to be finalised that also creates many speculations about both sides.
Earlier it was reported that the Red Sox team doctors have examined Napoli and will be issuing a brief report but still no news is coming about any report about former Texas Rangers’ star.
Napoli had a good season in 2012 with the Texas Rangers. He played well and achieved good numbers. He finished the season with .272 hitting average along with 24 homers, 56 RBIs and .343 OBP.
While his six-year Major League career also makes him a good role player in the entire league. He currently possesses career .259 hitting average along with 146 home runs, 380 RBIs and .356 OBP.
Experts believe that Napoli is a great player and having a large Major League experience also makes him a potential need in any leading team. His arrival in the Red Sox will be a healthy sign as he showed his true offensive class already in the Los Angeles Angels and Texas Rangers’ franchises.
