Were the Flinstones ahead of their time ??

I was in the pub this afternoon.From time to time we broke into song.In the course of the Flintstones anthem we realised that part of the lyric included the line...."Let's have a g*y Old Time" ( Capitals added).As this was a Northern Working Class Inner City boozer it all went quiet after that.
