  1. Strange wording: There were Irish and British settlers as well as lots of Scots and of course, French, in the various colonies that became the country, Canada, in 1867.


  2. Many Irish left Ireland during the Great Potato Famine in the late 1840's--since otherwise they would have starved.  Many of them went to Canada, many to the U.S.  

    As a general rule, the Irish haven't really wanted to do something "with the British."

  3. I agree with Rita, and would like to add that the reluctance to cooperate was mutual. Nevertheless, the combined talents of the two peoples did much to build great cities - not only in North America, but in the British Isles as well.
