Were the old silver dollars made with 100% pure gold or were they mixed with base metals?

Silver dollars were made with silver; hence the name SILVER DOLLAR.  There were gold dollars too, but were not 100% pure gold b/c that would be too soft.  I believe the silver dollar was almost pure, but again had a small amount of harder metals to keep it from being too soft.
