  4. Absolutely!  In England, the Houses of York and Lancaster (rival branches of the royal family) were fighting the War of the Roses over the crown, and the country had seven kings during that century.  In France, the crown was taken over by the English and then returned to the rightful heir by Joan of Arc.  In Scotland, there was a series of kings all named James.  In Spain, Princess Isabella of Castille and Leon married Prince Ferdinand of Aragon and united Christian Spain into one kingdom.  Farther east, royals were up to all sorts of interesting things.  It was the culmination of the Age of Chivalry.

  11. There were, in every European country, and a violent, nasty lot most of them were, including some of the princesses and queens.  When they were not plotting against one another, they were out killing one another, either in person or by proxy.

If you want to get a general idea of what they did, read up on the Wars of the Roses - or watch some of Shakespeare's history plays, although they were not actually very accurate in terms of the politics of royalty.

And if you want to get a sense of quite how nasty, watch 'Braveheart', although it was set 100 years earlier, as it gives a very good idea of the medieval aristocracy's mentality.
