Were there any big political issues or controversies in 1930s, in Australia?

  1. The Great Depression, where most people lost tonnes of money which they had invested in the stock market, like superannuation. All countries experienced discomfort.

    And I think Billy Hughes, the Rat was still in politics and he would have had his fair share of spice and controversy

  3. The really big issue in Australia in the 1930's was the 'White Australia' policy. Immigration from the British Isles and other 'preferred' countries was actively encouraged whilst immigration from Asian or African countries was virtually impossible.

    Efforts by white settlers to reduce the Aboriginal population had been going on since original colonisation but during the 1930's a big drive was made by the Australian government to prevent integration and inter-marriage between  the Aboriginal and immigrant populations.
