  1. Yes!  About 1.8 billion years ago, but Saskatchewan didn't look like the Saskatchewan ou know today, nor was it in the same place.  It happened when the Churchill and Superior continents crashed together.

The Canadian Shield, which is a rugged, rocky, glacier-scoured region, makes up about 40 percent of the surface area of the province.  Believe it or not, the Canadian shield is an area of ancient rocks (some of the oldest in the world), which are the eroded roots of ancient mountain ranges.

The mountains are unknown as to how high they were, but as seas creeped in and they were exposed to weather and ice ages, they eroded down.

You are likely looking for the Hudsonian Mountains.

  2. Province of west-central Canada, the middle Prairie Province, bordered to the west by Alberta and to the east by Manitoba. To the north of Saskatchewan (above the 60th parallel) are the Northwest Territories, while to the south (below the 49th parallel) lie the US states of North Dakota and Montana; area 652,300 sq km/251,854 sq mi; population (2001 est) 1,011,800.
