Were these normal side effects?

I took some Acetaminophen for a migraine. I never take pills for anything, but this was killing my head. The dosage was 2 pills (or 1000 mg). I didn't notice that it was also a sleep aid, so I took the full dosage.

Anyway, I took it at about 6 pm and went to go visit a friend. I was totally spacing out, and I don't even remember the conversation or how I got home (I do know I didn't drive though). Then I passed out on the couch for the rest of the night. I had really crazy dreams, and the next day I could hardly stay awake. Every time I fell asleep, I'd have another weird dream. It didn't wear off until about 6:30 the next night.

My question is, was this normal?

  1. Yes but because you hardly take any other pills you were more sensitive to it. Next time probably just take 1.

I find if people used to do drugs etc or abuse medicine it's not as effective for them as it is for someone who hardly takes them

  2. probably not i took 4 of those things and it didn't do anything to me. but its not harmful, you gotta get your body used to it first, especially if you never take pills.

  3. Well I'd have to say yes, the diphenhydramine antihistamine or benadryl or whatever the drowsy component was would have some anticholinergic properties. Certainly it would induce a muzzy sleep and the anticholoinergic element might give you bizarre dreams because its on the same lines as atropine and magic mushrooms, but attenuated so that it doesn't cause hallucinations. This is what happened Will Smith in Date Doctor movie when he got the allergy

  4. I'd blame it on the migraine and pain ... what were the ingredients, because Acetaminophen doesn't have any effect on sleep.
