Hi all i have a logitec x-540 5.1 speaker system and i have killed the sub that comes with it

i was wondering were i can buy a good 5¼" subwoofer in australia

and also does anyone know what one would be a good replacement

Without the proper tools and resources your best bet when it comes to replacing damaged loudspeaker drivers, especially when working with powered multimedia speaker systems, almost always necessitates end-users such as yourself to purchase the manufacturer’s original equipment replacement part(s). However if you’re willing to take a bit of a risk I have listed some of the best 5¼-inch low-frequency drivers currently available (though most may be inappropriate for your application due to cost.) If you choose to go ahead and purchase one of the drivers below (or any non-OEM driver for that matter) it is very important that you make absolutely sure that you match the nominal rated impedance of the replacement driver to the nominal rated impedance of the OEM driver.



One other note: in an attempt to maximize power handling and minimize power compression, as would be regularly encountered in subwoofer applications, I recommend that you try to avoid all low-frequency drivers with a voice coil diameter of less than 38mm. On the downside this will disqualify all but a very few low-frequency drivers smaller than 6½ inches.



In the final analysis, considering the high cost of good quality, high-performance, 5¼-inch low-frequency drivers, particularly with respect to their insurmountable performance limitations within the normal subwoofer operating range, it is my contention that you would be MUCH better off upgrading to a loudspeaker system with a subwoofer that uses a larger low-frequency driver measuring at least 8 inches or more. 8-inch and larger low-frequency drivers are significantly more plentiful and would actually cost less to replace—on average—if damaged than the specialty high-performance 5¼-inch low-frequency drivers.
