  1. Unfortunately, you are being a little contradictory in looking for a place close to the ski resorts that doesn't get too touristy.  The ski resorts are in business, in fact, to attract tourists.  And, also unfortunately, the ones that don't attract huge crowds are usually more pricey.  I lived in Summit county for 13 years (Breck, Keystone, Copper and ABasin) and it was getting so darn crowded there were times it was like being in a real city...so I moved to Telluride and it was awesome, but REALLY expensive to live.  Research Steamboat, Winter Park, or the Durango area...or check out some places in Northern Utah...that's where I am now and it's GREAT!!!  Best winter EVER!!!

  2. i agree that no resort will be "not touristy" and if you want to be "really close" no where is "not too pricey"....but i suppose i would recommend steamboat springs....btw, what does your mom plan on doing for a job??? there arent alot of professional jobs or any jobs that pay very well in ski towns

  3. Well, it is full of shredders and skiirs in winter but they know what they're doing-NOT TOURISTS! But i would say Vail

  4. my personal preference is in avon.  it is very close to vail, one of the biggest ski/snowboard resorts in the us.  vail is great for snowboarding, since there are 8 back bowls and unlimited powder runs.  its so big taht it doesnt get crowded like the smaller resorts.  avon is also a very cool town.  since its around 10-15 minutes from vail, there arent many tourists there.  there are many snowboard shops and cool places to go.  basically anywhere around vail will b great

  5. Telluride is B I G.

  6. You can work at the actual resorts and some of them have live on site places (kind of like dorms) that you can pay really cheap to live in. I know for a fact Keystone does, but I'm not really sure which other ones do.

  7. Breckenridge!!! I used to live there & regret moving.  It's one of the top 3 ranked resorts for snowboarders + the town is sick & you can walk everywhere.  Within 2 weeks of living there, you will know all the people that are not tourists.  Everyone is super friendly & hook each other up all the time.  I'd consider it the "fountain of youth" b/c even the old people there are so young in spirit.  Also, the city is 9,000ft & lies above the clouds most of the time having over 300 days of sunshine/year (more than the "Sunshine State").  Anyhow, I'd highly recommend it.
