Question:

Were you bummed for Nastia Liukin last night in gymnastics?

The scoring system was abused. The less-perfect girl won the gold, which Nastia should have won. When she said after her routine, "Dad, we tied. Why am I second?" it broke my heart. What about you?

  1. Yes! I felt so bad for her...they showed that they remove the two lowest scores off the two contestants' score and He and Liukin were equal so they removed the next lowest score and Liukin scored less. I would have just given both of them the gold.

  2. I felt so horrible for her. I could see how very disappointed she was when she saw that she had won the silver. She really, truly was good.

I think that the scoring system was used properly; it just was not a very good system. I still think that they should have let them keep the tie and have two gold winners. But, we just have to be happy that she got the most important medal, which was the All-Around medal.

Did you see the interview afterwards with Bela Karolyi who said that he felt some of the judges were biased or incompetent? I thought that was rather interesting.

  3. Yea id prob date her... but umm yea she should have won da all around the only reason the chinese girl one was because they took out the lowest score out of both of them to try n break the tie.

  4. nothing is being done cuz the americans are the only ones complaining about cheating and unfairness

  5. Yes, and its assenine because they used to award two golds, silvers, whatever. At that time, they bumped the 2nd place person to third, and so on...and I thought THAT was stupid. These games a total joke, and whoever that poster is up top...no way, the Chinese girl who took silver certainly did not do a harder routine...much like where Alicia Sacramone gto screwed on vault. Chen Fe's deduction should have left her mathematically impossible for her to medal

  6. I just thought that if she would have scored higher then no tie could have taken away her medal. I think He Kexin was excellent too, but I think we are all biased & want to believe Nastia was better;  I just wonder if she was better how come she didn't score higher?

They both deserved the gold, period.

I think these games have only proven that their scoring system sucks!! The one hundredth of a second differences (like Dara Torres') are within reaction times of humans, there should be an error margin. In the lab we always do that because statistically, there are no differences withing certain margin of error. If the slightest changes happen in the environment then the other athlete would take the gold. That, to me sounds like  more than one athlete in these games deserve to be considered the best of the world even if they won silver medals -except for Michael Phelps, he is just the best:)

  7. I also felt bad for Nastia. It was heartbreaking to see her not get the gold.  But that's because I was rooting for her.

That said, a system for tie-breaking is necessary.  This breakdown system is the one they chose for the rules, it needs to be followed.  (Remember we can't have it both ways.  If we want China to play fair, the USA needs to as well.)

My personal opinion is that I do not like the system in place.  I would prefer a tie-breaking routine of required skills.  The best at the basics so to speak.  No big tricks.

  8. I felt so bad! Nastia was clearly better than the Chinese girl. Nastia is ALWAYS better than everybody. They just didn't want her to be another Michael Phelps, so they gave the other girl the gold.

  9. Its just a crappy rule. I'm sure if the Chinese girl had a lower score they would have somehow gave her a gold too. i can't believe people don't do anything about the obvious favoritism to the chinese.

  10. You people are complaining that the Chinese are cheating by using "underaged" gymnast! But hey, the moment that they seemingly follow the rules, you critize that too!!

If it was reverse and Nastia got the gold enough though there was a tie, i dont think you would be complaining!

Honestly, get over it! Nastia got sliver (which is still pretty effing amazing) and Move on!

  11. Less perfect girl what???

The bronze girl deserves gold or silver. Nastia's routine was very simple, should be bronze or fourth.

Why Americans accuse winners of cheating? You ruin this Olympics for the whole world.
