I went for my doctors apt yesterday and he said he doesn't check people anymore unless their in labor. It was kind of a let down because I thought I might be dilated some, even though I could stay there for weeks.

So when you were about 37w5d pregnant were you dilated any?

Was it your first? and when did you deliver?

I'm sooo excited! I want to meet my little boy NOW!!!! thanks!

And also, I was just wondering...Did you have a good/bad pregnancy?

Good/bad labor&delivery?

  1. When i was pregnant with my first baby which was a boy i went into labor at 36 weeks and was a day away from being 37 weeks and i had dilated 2 centimeters i delivered on March 9 2008 and i had a very good pregnancy and labor i didn't feel that much pain just period cramps and after i felt pain like to pee and stuff like that.

  2. I have 2 girls.  They were both induced - the first was done 5 days early and the second was 3 days early.  Both were due to high blood pressure.  I hated being pregnant due to the weight I gained and that I carried them both very low and I have a lot of pressure.  My first delivery was hard and long (I won't kill you with the details) but the second was a lot better!  She only took 8 hrs which is good seeing I was induced and therefore went from start to finish in the hospital (none of that waiting at home until I was really close to delivery).  As being dilated - with both girls I was only 1 - 2 cm from 3 weeks on. Nothing changed until they gave me the meds to start my labor.  Congrats and good luck!  Remember to push like you are having a bowel movement (if someone has told me that I wouldn't have pushed for 3 hrs with my first one!!  Only 3 pushes for baby #2 seeing I knew that piece of info).

  3. With my son, at 37 weeks -- I was 1 cm dilated and stayed at 1 cm until I was almost 41 weeks!

Near 41 weeks, I spontaneously went into labor and dilated from 1 cm to 10 within a couple hours. And after three pushes, I gave birth fully natural, with no pain medication or assistance whatsoever.

I have to say that it hurt beyond the worse pain I've EVER felt before.. but my baby was so entirely worth every bit of it!

Your baby is the most beautiful thing you'll ever see in your life and you'll never forget the first time you see him (or her) squirming around right after they're born. Its sooo precious and in that moment, nothing else matters to you! <333

Congrats on your little one and good luck with your labor!

  4. I was dilated about 1-2 cm at 37 weeks, but I still ended up going past my due date, I can understand your excitement, it's so exciting getting to meet your little one! I had a pretty good pregnancy up until my last month, I separated the muscle from my ribs somehow, and had to pretty much have my fiance pack me around everywhere, I felt like I was 90! I had a horrible labor, only because the hospital sent me home, and when I finally swallowed my pride and went back to the hospital I had my son a little less then an hour later, so I didn't get the pain meds like I had planned! And about your doctor not checking you, I think that's pretty normal for them to not to it too much anymore, the only reason they checked me was because of my back pain, they thought for sure I was in labor. Good luck to you!!

  5. I was dilated 1 cm at 37 weeks with my first baby. But that doesn't really mean anything at all cause I never dilated any more on my own, I had to be induced.

  6. I was dilated at 4 cm when I was 36 weeks, and I delivered my baby at 37 weeks 3 days. She is my first and now she's 7 weeks old.

I had a pretty normal pregnancy with all the morning sickness, all day nausea, headache, drowsy/tired, and heartburn. I also had a good delivery. I asked for the epidural and I think I got it when i was about 6 or 7 cm dilated (not really sure since I was already having contractions - although I didn't feel them). Now I think I probably could have had her without the epidural, but I'm just so afraid of pain that I jumped the gun pretty quickly. I had no idea I was in labor when I went in the hospital, I just called the doctor and told her I felt some tightening in my stomach and she told me to go. I was already on bedrest because I was dilated so she wanted to make sure I was checked before I got further along and had the baby at home.

So to make a long story short, it is possible to be dilated so far and go into labor right away, and it is also possible to be dilated and still not go into labor until a few more weeks. It just depends on the baby. Good luck!

  7. I dilated to a 5 at week 35. I didn't have him till week 37. My doc said if you are dilated to long with no plug like me then you leave room for infection. He put me on antibiotics and bed rest for a week.

Otherwise, everything was good. Even tho I had actual contractions for those two weeks it wasn't all that bad. I have a feeling that this time around it is going to be horrible.

    Congrats and Good Luck!

  8. My midwife didn't routinely check either. She did check me at 36wks because I was having frequent contractions and I was not dilated at all. My water broke at 38wks and my son was born 30hrs later. As far as I know I was not dilated at all, I was only at 1cm 12hrs after my water broke. I ended up induced at 14hrs.

30hrs and pitocin should say it all about labor, I had a posterior baby and back labor. The pregnancy was ok though, not great, but ok. I had most of the normal pregnancy issues, morning sickness, back pain, and swelling.

  9. I had my little boy at 38w3d, my first baby. Guess how much I was dilated at my 38 week appt.? Yep...a big fat ZERO. I didn't think he was going to be born 3 days later, however, I had to be induced. Overall I had a pretty good pregnancy, had pretty bad swelling in my ankles/feet that wasn't fun and borderline blood pressures towards the end. My delivery on the other hand was not so fun, as I said I was induced. My blood pressure sky rocketed while I was at work, I walked my happy butt downstairs (I work in the hospital I had him at), and the dr. said, you are having a baby today! Talk about feeling unprepared, lol. I was actually 2cm though & contracting before they started my pitocin...so I will always maintain that he was on his way regardless :) With my blood pressure so high (150's/160's over 90's) I had to be on magnesium while I was laboring...and any of you who have ever had to be on mag know how horrible of a drug it is. They started my pitocin at 0400 and I had him at 1904. Really, all I can tell you besides the rambling I have just done is to enjoy those last few weeks. You don't realize how much your life changes until they get here (for the better) and how much you will miss feeling them inside of you...it's true....I miss my belly sometimes!!!

  10. Everytime you are checked, you increase your risk of infection.

I have five kids and only one of them was born on time--the rest were 7-10 days late.
