  1. My oldest son left the 8th grade with straight F's and went into an online charter school where he graduated with a 3.5GPA

My son attended an online charter school and now attends the University of Dayton ( a private college ) and he has scholarships as well no different then if he had attended a regular public school or a private school.

A home schooling program can provide students with choices. It gives them an alternative to the traditional classroom. Whether they choose home schooling for academic, safety or social reasons, they can be in charge of their education. It enables them to create an individualized learning experience.

For many children this is definitely a good option. A student needs to be self disciplined enough to do the school work daily. If a student is dedicated to being home schooled and can appreciate it, they can be successful !

I still home school 2 of my children and the experience is great.

  2. Nope, never been homeschooled. But one of the benefits are that it works around your schedule.

  3. I wasn't homeschooled, sorry

  4. YES!

    Just graduated, matter of fact.

I loved it. Most ppl say that it's an anti-social life. Well, it can be hard sometimes to be social with my age group, it's true. But to be quite honest, it's helped me a lot at getting jobs and going to college. I prefer to hang with the adults than socialize with all the drama drama drama in the youth. Adults love me & I love them! My Mom always said that's good 'cause in your work place everyone isn't the exact same age as you. They're all diferent ages. But in school you only hang with your grade.

But homeschooling may not be for everyone. I, myself, am a people person, so I love to talk with people a lot.  I find ways to be around them; church, homeschool bands, job, & the like. But some people prefer to be around kids their own age and have a ton of boyfriends and drama. I don't. I prefer the mature crowd. So it's different for everyone.

  5. no. just go to public school

  6. Yep, all my life.

I'm 15 and have only spent five weeks at school, that was a private prep school in the city when I was about 7 and it was the pits; the most boring, frustrating, pointless experience of my life!

Home-ed is the best way to go because it means I can learn the things that I'll need to know for my future and I can push myself as hard as I want without having to worry about whether other people can keep up or be held back by me.

It's also good because it is my only option for education; our closest school is a two-day drive away from our house and I can't go to boarding school because of health problems.

Home-ed also means I get to grow up within my own culture and society; as well as growing up alongside my brothers and sisters.

Being home-educated also means that none of the kids in my family have to go away and spend 7 years in an alien culture simply to attend school whilst knowing full well that, once we finished school, we would never again return to that society, community, culture.

  7. Yes since 2nd grade. You get to do your work in half the time you would at school, no extra home work lol. Don't have to deal with AS MUCH drama.

  8. I was homeschooled since I was in 3rd grade. From 6th grade I started going to Odyssey Charter School, (http://www.odysseyk12.org/hs/) which is an online school course, from 8th grade you go to school once a week. From kindergarten-7th grade, a teacher comes to your house once a week and tests you sometimes. All the CRT testing, etc. take place on the school campus.

Since 3 grade, my mother chose homeschooling for me because I have a busy schedule. I do schoolwork, I practice piano, and dance professional ballet. If I would go to a regular school from 8am-3pm, I wouldn't have time to do the things I need to do, since practicing piano takes me at least 3 hours every day. Also, I like homeschooling because I get to go on vacations not only in the summer and winter breaks, but on regular school days, and still do my schoolwork! So...I hope I answered your question!

  9. No but I wished that I was home schooled with all the c**p I had to put up with. It doesn't pay to keep quiet and do your school work in a public school in any generation.

I didn't play sports, or follow groups, or do the hang out scenes. I did my school work and as I got older I went from school to work.

I avoided drugs, booze, smoking, all kinds of things.

I didn't understand why I got so much c**p for all that effort. I still don't.

I do home school my children though. After they saw all the c**p they had to go through for doing their work they wanted to be home schooled badly. They certainly learn more and don't have the constant interruptions here at home like in a public school setting.

They don't have to deal with the hatred, ostracizing, school shootings and so forth.

  10. I was homeschooled by my mom.

I am currently 22 years old (I started college at age 15).

The most important factor is that the education is tailored to meet your individual needs and pace. This allows you to learn the way you were meant to learn, not at the government-mandated learning pace.

  11. I wasn't, so I feel bad about judging it, but I don't think it can ever be a satisfactory replacement for learning in an actual school environment.

Edit: I think some people who thumbs-downed my response might have misinterpreted what I meant. Obviously homeschooling will be more tailored towards the individual student's pace and capabilities from an academic standpoint. This is all well and good. However, going to an actual school fosters greater communication and social skills. It also allows students to learn from their peers and to be exposed to more points of view, backgrounds, etc. That's not to say that homeschooled kids are incapable of functioning normally in society, but there's really no substitute for the actual experience of going to school.

  12. i was home schooled all my life until 6th grade.

i am now in 10th grade in public school still.

i thought it was a great experience being home schooled, i learned alot more in alot less time.

i now enjoy being in public school because i have tons of friends and a social life...lol

i dont think being home schooled effected my personality at all. i think that i am the same person as i always was...

i also dont think that being home schooled prevented me from doing anything...its just different.

im still in high school so i dont kno if it will help me later on in life, but so far it hasen't...lol

  13. sorry i wasn't.

  14. I started in the 6th grade, I'm in 11th now.

Honestly, I can't say one positive thing that I've gotten out of homeschooling, maybe just more time to act. That's it, other than that, it's been the biggest mistake of my life, and has only had negative affects.

I thought "Nic Ventgant" couldn't have said it better.

  15. I was homeschooled K-12.  I'm 22 and in my last year of college.

Homeschooling allowed me to develop my personality, style, likes/dislikes without peer pressure.  Many of my public schooled friends were always so worried about what others think that they would suppress what they wanted to follow the crowd.  I can think of maybe one or two times I did that.  Otherwise I have never bothered to care what people think of me.

Homeschooling taught me to get things done.  If I wanted to learn something extra it was up to me to research it and then approach my parents or to simply start learning about it.

The biggest thing homeschooling taught me was how precious children are and how important it is to give them the best education possible.  For me that was homeschooling.  It has served me more than well.

  16. I truly believe that home schooling is somewhat of a "cult".  It does not make sense because the education level is only as good as the parents expertise and that can not be as good as a well educated instructor.  The other bad thing is home schoold kids can not function in society socially, they do not no how to communicate with others, also home school kids have blinders put on them, their parents do not want them to know the real world.

  17. im sorry i not home schooled

  18. I was never home schooled but I do home school my kids. As a kid I never wished to be has all the stereotypes about HS and so on. I thought my cousins were totally naive even as adults!

Now I have to say I wish I was.My kids have so much more fun in school than we ever did. We looked forward to free days in school and my kids beg to do school work! The comparison is amazing! There is a genuine love of learning that I never had.

  19. I've gone to public and private school and been homeschooled for four years.  I had terrible experiences at all my other schools and so did my sister.  I learn 10 times more at homeschool and get through much more work.  The downside is not having a social life.  However, I got involved in community theatre and could still have friends.  I take music and theatre at puplic highschool and homeschool the rest.

  20. im homeschooled.

    i LOVE it.

its so much better than public school

but you have to make sure you do your work.

you can do anything you want,

    can do your work anywhere

can travel without worrying about missing school

    can do it anytime

    its AWESOME.

10000000 x better than public school.

i know because i went to public school til 8th grade

  21. Nope, but I had one friend that was for awhile. He said its hopeless.

  22. I've been homeschooled all my life. Hehe, yes it's true. The only time I've ever stepped into a public was for a play, church, and my SAT/ACT. While I can't compare it to public, I happen to love homeschooling. It isn't as easy as a lot of people may think. While it depends on your schedule and curriculum, we have to wake up on time and sometimes do our schoolwork till late hours of the night. The flexibility of our schedule is a perk however. As well as being home all day and having the ability to spend more time with your family. I love and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.

I graduate next month by the way. :)

  23. My mom has homeschooled my 4 younger siblings. I'm 25, my brother is 21, my sisters are 23, 15, and 13.

She was initially going to homeschool us when I was in 5th grade, but changed her mind. Her first year of homeschooling my siblings was when I was a senior in high school, and she didn't want to take me out of school at the time.

One positive is the individual attention you can get, and you don't get "left behind" because the other kids are learning faster. Also, you don't get bored because the other kids are learning slower. You go at your own pace.

Another thing is that usually you can do a regular day's worth of school in 3-4 hours. That's because there's no time going to and from classes, "settling in" to a class for the first five minutes, and no gym, lunch, or other "non-academic" classes. You do your work and then you have the rest of the day.

You have a much more flexible schedule than you would at public school. If you want to go somewhere on Wednesday, you can do double the work on Tuesday and resume on Thursday.

You can get courses on certain topics that interest you that might not necessarily be available in public school.

Of course, there are negative aspects too, such as limited social interaction and uncertified teaching, but since the question asked for positive things I'm gonna stop there!

  24. 1.You have more time because it takes you about 1 hour to finish
