  1. I was a skinny 95lb 17 year old kid when I joined the navy. When I came out of boot camp, I was a well built 130lb 17 year old man. Wish I could do it all over again.

  2. Probably better than I ever have been since then. I was an eighteen year old farm boy who had just spent all of a damned hot summer putting up hay and maintaining fences.

  3. Hahaha, not at all. I joined at 18, after attempting one semester in college. I failed every class and spent all my time smoking weed, eating pizza, and drinking. I don't recall my exact weight but while I was in DEP, I ran a mile in 15 minutes and probably would have been lucky to do ten pushups.  I've never been ripped or anything but after about a year in, I was running the PT test (1.5 miles) in like 10 minutes, knocking out like 60 pushups and 80 situps. I would estimate that I lost a good 20-25 pounds in boot camp.

  4. When I left for basic training I was 5'4 and weighed in around 200 pounds. Nine weeks later I was 5'9 and 145 pounds. I had to get new uniforms issued to me four times because I lost so much weight and grew so much so fast.

My first PT test I ran two miles in something like 32 minutes, did 16 sit ups and 2, count 'em 2 push ups. The final PT test I completed the two mile run in just over 17 minutes, did 65 sit ups, and 42 push ups.

Until our first gate test, the only thing the DIs had to go by was PT. Since I was your basic PT failure, they were very suspicious when I got all first time GOs on the gate test. They actually searched me, thinking that I had a bunch of different colored pens in my pockets, and had forged the signitures.

I wasn't the platoon honor graduate, but I was the most improved.

My diet plan was the "slim & trim, fat boy diet" that was a precurser to the Atkins Diet. No carbs or starches, meaning no bread, pasta, or potatoes. I could have one serving of meat, and all the veggies I wanted. Also I got no deserts or sweet drinks. Water or milk only.

It sounds bad, but it worked wonders.

  5. Well Im still not in but I know I need to loose 20 lbs to enlist and its hard but I know I could do it...lol
