Ya I was there, the 96 degree weather was harsh but well worth it.

No. I watched it in Canada on a Detroit affiliate station. They said there was only 40,000 people there. When it comes here half the nation will be downtown. I'm sure the Red Wings players just care about the end result but it would have been nice to see more fans there to congratulate them.

They typically get 1 million people there for the Thanksgiving day parade along the same parade route, which is where they base their estimates.

They estimated that the 97 crowd was about the same as the Thanksgiving parade crowd and the following year was estimated at 1.2 million.  I don't recall what the 2002 parade drew but I do remember that all three of these parades were in the middle of the week (1998 was on a Thursday if I remember correctly).  The fact that this parade was on a Friday (for the 1st time) makes it quite probable that there WAS the 1.4 million they have estimated.

If they ever had it on a Saturday (they would never do this) there would probably be 2 million down there.  I'm serious.

I live in the southeast.  But, I played Queen's "We are the Champions" all the way into work Thursday.   Confession:  started the C.D. of the "Champions"  before the Pens stuck one in with seconds left, and 3 overtimes.  Hate to see the Wings lose; but, I think game 5 was a game no fan will ever forget.  Gosh, the Detroit Ciy boys can skate so like no other.  And can be physical if another team wants to go that way.  In a way, I wish Scotty was asked to hoist Lord Stanley's Cup on trophy night.

Sorry but I had 2 classes this morning and have to prepare for exams one Monday and the other Tuesday, besides I am a Montreal fan going to college 10 hrs south of Dallas
