  1. Yes .I went to a boys Grammar School and took Latin for the first two years.I was placed in the Science stream in the third year and had to drop the subject.

I don't think that it was a waste of time as i think it helps with English.

  2. Yes I was and I'm still really grateful 50 years on!  I went to a GPDST  (selective) school. In the areas of medical knowledge, garden plant names and crosswords it has come in useful time and again.

Easily understanding much of the foundation of our own language has been a beneficial result as well.

  3. Sane!

Yes, but there were only two of us in the whole VI form who wanted to take it at A level, so we had to make do with one lesson a week in our lunch break from the Classics teacher! So needless to say, I'm not very good.

But yes, it has come in useful; I have an interest in History and archaeology. It also helps in understanding many terms in sciences, especially medicine, Biology and Astronomy.

Lingua Latina Occasianibus Omnibus! Circumspice, Linguua Latina se pandit ubique tanquam toga vilis! Medici hac lingue utuntur ut  alvum evacues ex metu, Iusisperiti ea utuntur ut te defraudent!

  4. I went to a small town public school in New York. Latin was offered as a high-level elective class for juniors and seniors, but we were not forced to take it. Latin did NOT count as completing a foreign language high school requirement, and students who took latin also had to take italian, spanish or french. Those people I knew who did take latin took it because it interested them, but they did not use it practically in modern life.

  5. no i wasnt taught latin- it was an achievement  to be able to write badly in English in my school lol.

  6. I wasn't taught Latin, but it was one of our options at school

  7. Yes and yes. It opened many doors for me. I have enjoyed latin literature and it has given me a good basis for the study of modern languages.

    Ave atque vale.

  8. I went to a grammar school, after passing the 11+ and yes I was taught Latin.

Actually I have found it very helpful. For several years I worked within the Health Service and my knowledge of Latin was invaluable.

These days I find it helpful for crossword puzzles and of course for quick quips spoken with flair in friendly discussions.

  9. Yes.

Not useful at all and yes to the grammar school question too!

    Caecilius est in horto
