The chairman of Liverpool FC, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Werner unravelled that the Reds were close to reaching to a decision on Andy Carroll’s future at Anfield, and claimed that Brendan Rodgers will have the final say on the subject.
The burly striker has been heavily linked with a move away from the Merseyside club during the summer, with the likes of Newcastle United, Fulham and West Ham United having already confirmed their interest in the English striker.
Earlier, Liverpool turned down loan offers from the Magpies and the Hammers for the player, as they are reportedly seeking to off load the player on a permanent deal.
With multiple rumours and speculations doing the rounds related to the striker’s possible future destination, Werner divulged that Liverpool are close to taking a decision on the 23-year old, and that Rodgers opinion will carry utmost importance in this
regard.
He told the reporters in an interview, “Hopefully the question will be answered shortly, but at the moment Andy is on the team and we look forward to him contributing.”
“Brendan is clearly the leader here.”
Rodgers, who took over the Anfield management in June, has already unearthed his intentions of introducing a short passing and possession centred philosophy at Liverpool. The Northern Irishman’s playing style is apparently out of phase with Carroll’s strength,
who likes to play the ball in the air.
Keeping in view the incompatibility between the two, Rodgers himself is believed to be in favour of selling out the player.
However, the Reds supremo indicated that at the moment, Carroll is a member of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 squad, and a decision on the player’s future will be taken keeping in view the best interest of the Merseyside club.
He added, “The only thing I can say is we will do what is best for the club. At the moment Andy is on the squad, he is an important member of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 team and he has a lot of talent.”
Since making a switch from Newcastle to Liverpool in January last year, Carroll has made 56 appearances for the Reds and netted 11 goals.
