The FC Koln Chairman has explained what prompted him to part ways with the former sporting director after a win over Hertha http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Berlin-c7536.
FC Koln chairman, Dr Werner Wolf, has revealed the reason of Volker Finke’s departure from the club. The former sporting director left the club with ‘mutual consent’ following a home win over Hertha Berlin on Saturday, March 10.
Finke had explained earlier that he and the club’s board had differing opinions regarding the club’s future. Wolf stated that Finke wanted to work out his own method of taking Koln forward which was completely different from what
the board had in mind.
The chairman admitted that it was a hard decision to make but eventually it will benefit the club in the long run. While talking to a sports website, sportinglife.com, Wolf further added:
"The reason for this is a difference in opinion in view of the laying of foundations for the footballing future of Cologne. He made a valuable contribution to us avoiding relegation in the 2010/11 season and, during his time with
Cologne, he has given the club new impulsion."
Wolf showed his gratitude to Finke for effort he had put in for the betterment of the club in the past one year. He applauded the way Finke used to take control of any pressure situation and wished him a successful future ahead.
"It is all about football and it is all about the success of FC Cologne. Last night, we spoke with Volker Finke after our home game against Hertha Berlin and, afterwards, we announced that he and Cologne would be parting company
by mutual consent,” the chairman concluded.
Finke also became Koln’s interim manager last year when Frank Schafer resigned from the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 in April and helped the Billy Goats avoid relegation by finishing 10th at the end of the 2010/11 campaign. After the arrival
of Stale Solbakken, he took over the role of director of sport.
Koln are currently 13th in the Bundesliga with 28 points, five points clear of the relegation zone. The RheinEnergieStadion outfit will next be in action against Hannover on Sunday, March 18.
