Wesley Caulkett, Mitchell Wheller continue their successful run in Sunshine Coast Open Tournament
The spirited Men’s Doubles campaigners Wesley Caulkett and Mitchell Wheller continued with their top form and overwhelmed Hsuan Yu Chen-Chia Ju Hsieh in Sunshine Coast Open Tournament on August 12, 2012.
Though, this showdown was resolved with 21-11 and 21-18 in just two games but still the audience applauded the native teams for putting admirable show of skills in local badminton arena of Nambour in Australia.
Wesley and Mitchell, who have registered their mark with a consistent performance in the home event, did not lose their touch and sealed a splendid straight-set victory.
On the other hand, Yu Chen and Ju Hsieh were expected to put at least a laudable effort but they disappointed their supporters with a below par performance in this crucial match.
First sign of trouble came when they got pale against the intensive campaign of their rivals and let few valuable points slip from their hands. They could not stand ever again and remained at the lower end all the way to game point situation.
The twosome of Wesley and Mitchell established their grip over game and maintained the upper hand until the last shot was played.
They dictated their rivals in first half and placed a mountainous total of 11 before the announcement of mid-game break.
After the interval, they accelerated the pace and left their challengers far behind with a distinctive lead. They made swift progress in final stage and finished first set with scoreboard flashing 21-11 margin in their favour.
However, next game was not a dead contest as both teams made every effort to achieve their respective goals.
The partnership of Yu Chen and Ju Hsieh was looking to avoid a straight-set defeat while the other Australian pair was striving to wrap this show in just two segments.
Initially, they remained toe-to-toe but then Wesley-Mitchell stepped forward with a couple of successive points.
However, their supremacy ended when the opposing team counter-balanced the situation with an impressive campaign.
This development woke Wesley and Mitchell up and they reinstated their dominance with some fruitful rallies in final stage. They sealed a splendid victory by registering 21-18 score on the board.
