of the group stages.
However, three defeats in a row against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 ended the Oranje’s European Championship campaign on a bitter note, finishing at the bottom of the Group B without securing even a single point.
Sneijder, who has thus far represented the Dutch national side in 87 matches, was extremely disappointed with his side’s Euro 2012 elimination, and admitted that they have only themselves to blame for the disheartening competition.
“You can't go on after a tournament like this. This was the last chance of this generation. With this group we had to win something, but we didn't. Two years after the World Cup final [in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757] we can't even reach the quarter-finals
here, and only have ourselves to blame for this disgrace”, Sneijder was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The former Real Madrid star went on to confess that the squad needs to be changed before the 2014 World Cup qualification begins.
“I think the changes that need to be made will be made. I'm not sure what the level of the next generation is, but I don't think the Under-23s will be the answer though. They are not ready for it”, Sneijder concluded.
Netherlands will return to action on August 15 when they travel to Brussels to play against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 in Amsterdam
on September 7.
