Wesley Sneijder linked with Bernabeu return
Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder could be set for a sensational return to the club where he was deemed surplus to requirements just over 12 months ago.
With coach Jose Mourinho swapping Inter Milan for Real Madrid in the summer, Sneijder’s agent, Soren Lerby, has suggested his player could be tempted to follow the Portuguese tactician. “Everyone knows
that Jose Mourinho and Wesley have a very special relationship,” Lerby stated, before going on to claim Inter “have gone back on their previous words,” regarding details of a new contract.
Lerby stoked the fire further by suggesting Sneijder is indeed unsettled by the ongoing contract dispute: “The attitude of the club gives him an uneasy feeling and that is reinforced by
the interest of Real Madrid.” Whether this is just an agent wrangling another move for his player is unknown at this point, but a return to Madrid shouldn’t be ruled out. Real aren’t shy of dipping into their pockets, and Sneijder would certainly be an asset
to any team.
The Dutch star had limited first team opportunities at Real Madrid following his £23m move from Ajax in the summer of 2007, and found himself shown the door two years later with the influx
of Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo leaving him even further down the pecking order.
Italian giants Inter Milan were quick to snare him from his Madrid nightmare, splashing out £13m on the player, who went on to be the talisman in an outstanding treble-winning campaign,
which ironically included Champions League glory at the Santiago Bernabeu. To cap off a fantastic year for the former Ajax man, he played a vital role in Holland’s run to the World Cup final in South Africa this summer, scoring five goals in the process.
It has left him being one of the most sought after players in the world. Indeed, many would have him down as the best player in the world over the last 12 months, leading to plenty of
speculation that more top notch teams would be showing an interest.
