Wesley Sneijder has said that Inter Milan need to carry the confidence into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash against Bayern Munich after they beat Sampdoria 2-0 in a crucial Serie A fixture.
Inter, who are the current Champions League holders, met Bayern Munich on Wednesday in the first leg of the encounter. Bayern were able to edge past their opponents by a 1-0 margin which has put immense pressure on Leonardo’s Inter.
In the 2009-10 Champions League final, Inter registered a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich. This time, the German Bundesliga club is determined to take the revenge from the Serie A side and have certainly cleared the first phase of that revenge.
Sneijder wants his team to put the previous result behind them, forcing his teammates to concentrate on what is coming their way as the Serie A title is also very much in their grasp.
“It is an important victory for Inter, We are now two points behind Milan and one point ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003,” Sneijder added.
The playmaker also praised the team efforts against Sampdoria and applauded the determination and character shown by his side which looked really disappointed after the loss against Bayern.
“We played very well from the get-go, pressing a lot and deserving this victory. It was very important to win especially after our loss to Bayern Munich,” the playmaker further added.
Inter Milan are just 2 points behind the Serie A leaders and rivals AC Milan but have played a game more. Leonardo’s men have some very crucial fixtures coming up and the manager wants his men to be fully focused and play with unity and discipline if they
want the results in their favour.
The Nerazzurri’s have a fixture coming up against Brescia on 11 March, 2011 which is a must win game for them. They then would travel away to Bayern to avenge their first leg defeat.
