Wesley Sneijder to stay at Inter Milan, rejects Manchester United and Chelsea
Inter Milan playmaker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Sneijder-c36799 revealed he planned to stay with the Serie A side after reports linking him to a move away in the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old was recently linked to a move to English Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea.
Both sides were looking to sign the attacking playmaker in order to strengthen their respective squads in time for the next season.
While it seemed Sneijder seemed to be considering making a move to the English Premier League, the Dutch international has spoken out, revealing he was going to stay at the San Siro.
Sneijder joined Inter Milan on a long term contract in the summer of 2009 and is now contracted to the club until the end of the 2015 season.
He revealed he enjoyed the atmosphere at Inter Milan, a club he had come to love in his two seasons there.
Sneijder said while speaking to reporters:
“There is a family atmosphere at Inter and there are all the ingredients to aim high.
Milan is marvellous, picturesque and full of elegance. I http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Love-c22466 it.
At the moment I am very happy here and I don't see why I should leave.”
Sneijder signed with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid in August 2009.
His impact was immediate and highly effective; he went on to make 41 appearances and scored 8 goals in the process.
It was in his first season with Inter, under the management of Jose Mourinho, that the side went on win the treble; Serie A, Coppa Italia and the UEFA Champions League.
Sneijder’s contribution to Milan’s perfect season was well noted by then boss Mourinho, who described him as a “world class” player.
His achievements were recognized when he was shortlisted for the FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2010. He ultimately lost out to Barcelona’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296, but the fact that he made it that far is an accomplishment on its own.
With Mourinho’s departure in 2010, Inter Milan suffered, as did Sneijder. The playmaker managed to make 38 appearances and found the back of the net 7 times.
While this season was not as successful as the last, Inter Milan managed to retain the Coppa Italia for a second time in a row in recent years.
His recent quotes have successfully put an end to Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s dream of bringing him to the Premier League.
The two English sides will now have to turn their attention elsewhere, since Sneijder looks to be staying in the Serie A.
