Wessex Exempt wins 2011 Irish National Team Racing Championships after securing 7 victories
Host club’s Wessex Exempt put up an astounding sailing display at the 2011 Irish National Team Racing Championships and claimed the overall title with seven tremendous victories. On the other hand, George Knights made a strong comeback at the home club and
with impressive six victories, they took second place.
Schull was the only Youth team participating in the competition, which eventually crossed the finish line on ninth place overall. With six participant sailing teams coming from UK, the event was the largest National Championships around for several years.
The weather conditions during the Championships were moderate with enough breeze over the racing area.

Wessex Exempt enjoyed a terrific sailing experience and easily managed to grab all their races, but the overall second placed, George Knights, faced an unfortunate defeat against them to lose against the fourth placed, Royal Thames Vultures, in Round 2.
The overall result board could have been shifty, if the fleet had some more time on the watch to commence the eighth round.
However, despite the lack of time for Round 8, there was some time to conduct a race in order to separate the Irish teams, DOC and Team Zephyr, who ended up in a tie for second placed Irish squad.
To finally have one eventual winner, the preferred option for both teams was to have a race against each other. So, DOC and Team Zephyr sailed against each other for the place and DOC defeated Team Zephyr after a big wind shift, which helped them to finish
ahead of their opponents.
