Manchester United has certainly been in a game at the Hawthorns, As West Brom held them to 1-1 at half time. The Baggies have really given the Red Devils a good run for their money in the first 45 minutes.
West Brom started off enthusiastically and James Morrison immediately forced http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tomasz-Kuszczak-c35329 into his first save of the afternoon. It was a comfortable stop, after Morrison let one fly from a distance just 20 seconds into the game.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wayne-Rooney-c36736 was on the charge and there was a big roar from the United travelling fans, as Rooney finally ended his goal drought with a well placed header in the 4th minute of the game. This was the first goal for Rooney from open play since
March.
West Brom responded well, James Morrison fired in a dangerous cross from the right that came all the way across to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gary-Neville-c14447 at the back post. He should have cleared easily enough, but he was caught napping by Jerome Thomas who bursted in but his shot
was well wide.
United continued to go forwards, and it was some great work from Wayne Rooney. He muscled Youssuf Mulumbu off the ball before feeding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Fletcher-c10361 on the right. United had a few men up there, but what should have been a promising break ended with an extremely
poor and over-hit cross from Fletcher.
All of a sudden, from nothing the home team was on level terms. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nemanja-Vidic-c27550, but only went to Morrison who, from 25 yards out, ran on to the bouncing ball and crashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
Tomasz Kuszczak was just a spectator as the ball fizzed past him.
The goal had got West Brom's heads up. All of a sudden, United were looking a bit shaky at the back, and it did not help their cause when they left James Morrison completely unmarked on the right of the box. His cross was a bit too deep to cause any real
danger and United got the ball clear.
West Brom continued to build from the back, but United had settled down a bit and the game was being played at a decent pace.
United got a big break when the Baggies got a big penalty shot. Graeme Dorrans latched on to a long ball over the top. He was shaping to shoot inside the area when Gary Neville slid in. Neville certainly did not get the ball and a penalty should have been
given.
However United survived and went in search of the 2nd goal. West Brom though had got the bit between their teeth and kept the visitors under pressure till the half time whistle.
