The former Ipswich Town stopper has admitted that his side staged a below par performance in their 3-1 defeat against Swansea City, and has urged his teammates to perform better in their upcoming Premier League game.
West Bromwich Albion defender, Gareth McAuley, has expressed confidence ahead of his side’s upcoming English Premier League fixture against Stoke City at the Hawthorns on Saturday, December 1.
The veteran Irish stopper, who joined the Baggies in the summer of 2011 after making well over 100 appearances for Ipswich Town, has admitted that his side did not perform accordingly in their midweek clash against Swansea City on November 28, and deservingly
suffered a 3-1 defeat at the end.
“We were very surprised with the performance on Wednesday. We didn’t do what we’ve been doing to win games and when you do that, especially at a place like Swansea. We found that out to our peril in the opening 15 or 20 minutes. We didn’t turn up really”,
McAuley was quoted as saying to the media.
The 32-year-old defender, who has tons of playing experience under his belt, went on to urge his teammates to put behind their abysmal show against Swansea City, and shift their focus on the upcoming game against Stoke City at home.
“It was a slap in the face but we will take it on the chin and move on because we’ve got another big game against Stoke so”, McAuley added.

“Stoke will be tough. We will expect a big response from the team that is selected to play on Saturday. Our home form is excellent and we’ve got to keep that going”, McAuley concluded.
West Brom, who are currently sitting at the fourth spot in the league standings, have thus far achieved brilliant results at home, winning six of their seven games at the Hawthorns, and McAuley would be keen to see his side maintain their good record at
home on Saturday against Stoke City as well.
