West Brom have rejected an undisclosed bid for star striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Al-Gharafa-c38306.
The player was the subject of a move away from the Hawthorns after rumours started flying around of a training ground argument with new manager Steve Clarke.
With the Baggies having flown out to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sweden-c3015 yesterday for their pre-season campaign, there were reports and stories about a heated exchange of words that took place between player and manager.
Rumours also suggested that Clarke was very unhappy with the player’s behaviour, to the point where he was considering selling him for the right price and if a suitable replacement was found.
This came as a surprise considering how, just a few weeks ago, Clarke had praised the Nigerian striker and stated that he intends on holding on to him. Speaking to an English newspaper, Clarke had said:
"He's (Odemwingie) a top player, a Nigerian international, he scored goals in the Premier League consistently. There's no reason to doubt that he's not a top, top player and I'm really looking forward to working with him."
"His goal record here is really good. He's the man you look to for the goals. Normally as an opposition coach I would be looking and seeing that Peter Odemwingie has scored again."
News about the bust-up between the pair started doing the rounds earlier today and hinted at an exit for the player. However, West Brom were very quick to dismiss the incident. The whole matter was laid to rest when a West Brom spokesperson rubbished the
rumours and said:
“This is utter nonsense, with no basis whatsoever.”
It is now understood that West Brom have rejected an undisclosed offer from Qatari club Al-Gharrafa, turning it down flat. Odemwingie’s inclusion in West Brom’s 25-man squad hints at the fact that the Nigerian is very much part of Steve Clarke’s plans.
Odemwingie joined West Brom two years ago from Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow. The 30-year old Nigerian has scored 25 goals in 60 appearances for the club since his move in August 2010.
