West Bromwich Albion 'bid for Getafe midfielder'
English Premier League outfit West Brownwich Albion are said to have lodged a £3m bid for Getafe midfielder Derek Boateng.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a successful season with the La Liga outfit after joining last summer from Koln for a fee of one million euros. His strong displays in the middle of the pitch saw him named in the Ghana squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Manager wants player before Liverpool game
It has been reported by talkSPORT that West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo is eager to snap up the player after losing out on the signature of Cheick Tiote, who has instead joined EPL rivals Newcastle United.
Di Matteo is said to be looking to secure the services of the player, who has been employed as a holding midfielder to great success by Getafe, before his side’s EPL clash with Liverpool this weekend.
Spaniards 'want £3.5m'
The Spanish outfit are believed to be holding out for around £3.5m for Boateng, but West Brom are reported to be confident of thrashing out a deal before the transfer window slams shut next Tuesday.
Boateng started out his career with a team in his homeland before making the switch to European football in 1999 when he joined Greek outfit Kalamata. In 2001, he moved on to Panathinaikos and then to Swedish outfit AIK.
In July 2006, Boateng was transferred to Beitar Jerusalem, with whom he won the Israeli Premier League in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons as well as the Israel State Cup in 2008. By the time he left for Koln in January 2009, he had become the highest-paid player in the history of the league.
Boateng made his senior international debut for Ghana in December 2001 and has gone on to win 22 caps for his country. As well as being named in the squad for the World Cup in South Africa, he featured in the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
