West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson believes striker Fernando Torres will be a huge success for Chelsea
West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson revealed he was certain that misfiring Chelsea striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 would be a big success at Stamford Bridge. The former Liverpool boss has managed the Spain striker at Anfield and is confident of the forward's
ability to return to his goal scoring form.
Roy Hodgson took charge of Liverpool last summer and was one of the main reasons skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 and striker Fernando Torres stayed at the club. However, he was sacked when the Reds suffered a string of poor results which saw them slip down to the
bottom half of the league.
Kenny Dalglish was brought in to replace him, while Hodgson was hired by West Brom. With the Englishman gone, Torres left shortly in the January transfer window; he joined English Premier League rivals Chelsea for a record breaking fee of £50 million.
The Spaniard has proved to be a flop for the London side so far, having failed to score since his debut against Liverpool in early February. He has been preferred by Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti to start in both the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions
League but the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 striker has not managed to find the back of the net.
However, Hodgson was confident that the 2010 World Cup winning striker would regain his confidence and start scoring for the Blues soon. He admitted he had been keeping an eye on Torres and could see he was trying really hard to prove his critics wrong.
Hodgson said while speaking to reporters, “He's a very good player, a top, top class striker. It's not been a good season by his standards, neither at Liverpool nor at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, and no one knows that better than Fernando himself.”
The former Fulham and Liverpool boss said the problem that Torres was facing was not uncommon, many other strikers before him had gone through barren spells. He was sure Torres would soon improve and become into one of the best players for Chelsea.
He continued, “All strikers go through periods where things don't go their way and the ball doesn't bounce for them. In that period of time, they take the same amount of criticism as the amount of praise they've had in the past when things have gone their
way.”
Hodgson is aware of Torres’ potential and backed him for success at the Bridge, he said, “Fernando's intelligent enough and mature enough to understand that and he'll keep working at his game and he will be a big success for Chelsea football club.”
Chelsea travel to West Brom in an English Premier League fixture, shortly after their UEFA Champions League disappointment. They can expect a tough challenge from Hodgson’s side who are currently unbeaten in their last seven games.
