West Bromwich Albion’s technical and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 director, Dan Ashworth, is confident that the club will be able to retain their star striker, Peter Odemwingie. The Nigerian international has been influential for the Baggies this season, and his performances
have been attracting attention from some of the bigger clubs in English Premier League.
Odemwingie was signed by West Brom in August last year for an undisclosed fee. But whatever amount the club paid for his services, it is surely a bargain compared to the striker’s output in his debut season in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749. The Nigerian has scored 15 goals in
the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League season. His contributions are a huge part of the reason that West Brom have finished as high as eleventh in the Premier league table.
While that may not seem like a good position, it is absolutely remarkable when one considers the fact that the Baggies were floundering in the relegation zone not long before the end of the campaign.
There is speculation that Odemwingie could be on his way out of the Hawthorns in the summer transfer window, as a number of clubs are reported to be keeping tabs on him.
However, Dan Ashworth believes that the striker is going nowhere. Ashworth claims that Odemwingie is likely to remain with the Baggies for the foreseeable future. He revealed that talks are underway to provide the Nigerian international with a new contract.
Speaking on the matter, Ashworth said, “We have spoken to Peter and we have spoken to Peter's representatives. We know where they are and they know where we are. I don't foresee any problems in sorting out a new contract. Things have been held up because
all of the relevant parties are away. But once we can get everybody together I'm optimistic we'll be OK."
West Brom will be looking to build on their strong finish to the 2010/11 Barclays Premier League campaign. The Baggies have an experienced manager in Roy Hodgson to take them forward, and the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 boss has already stated that his aim is to take
West Brom further up the Premier League standings.
