West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson wants to hang on to striker Peter Odemwingie
West Bromwich Albion manager, Roy Hodgson, wants to keep striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794 at the Hawthorns, following a fantastic debut season with the club.
The Nigerian has adapted well to the English Premier League after a move from Russian club, Lokomotiv Moscow, scoring 13 goals for the club in 29 appearances in the English Premier League so far.
Brilliant on-field performances for the Baggies have sparked interest from many clubs, notably Italian Serie A giants Juventus reportedly keen on swooping for the striker.
Despite transfer speculation, Hodgson wants the striker to stay with West Brom. The Baggies boss claims that if any club wants to sign the striker they will have to make an offer which West Brom cannot refuse.
He said, “He's a good player and we would like to keep him here. Whether we receive any offers or not, who can say? But I'm not sure there's an awful lot of money around. Certainly we wouldn't be looking to get rid of him so it would have to be the type
of offer you can't refuse and we know what top front players cost in the market”.
At present, West Brom will certainly be hoping that Odemwingie can score more goals for them as the club are battling to avoid relegation from the Premier League. As things stand, the Baggies have collected 40 points from 34 matches and will be looking to
add to that tally from their remaining four fixtures.
Hodgson believes that if West Brom want to build a better team they should be looking to keep their best players at the club and the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 boss is confident that Odemwingie wants to be a part of the club in future.
Hodgson added, "I don't think he's looking to take the first opportunity to get out of the club. We're not going to have a chance to do well next year if we've got to start building again.”
The Baggies gave themselves a major boost for Premier League survival as they were able to collect a point from their last fixture against Tottenham Hotspur; next for them is a home clash against Aston Villa on April 30, 2011.
