West Bromwich Albion midfielder tips club to respond to defeat
West Bromwich Albion midfielder Steven Reid has claimed that he and his team-mates can bounce back from their 2-1 English Premier League loss to Blackpool on Monday, 1 November.
Reid made a substitute appearance for a side that were forced to play with nine men for over an hour following the dismissals of Pablo Ibanez and Gonzalo Jara.
West Brom were aiming for a win that would have reinforced an impressive start to the season by moving into the top four of the league, but saw their hopes take a blow when Ibanez was red-carded for felling DJ Campbell in the penalty area.
Blackpool skipper Charlie Adam then stepped up to slot home the resulting penalty. The visitors then had a second player sent off after Jara delivered a rash challenge on Luke Varney after just 29 minutes. Varney later doubled the home side’s advantage, and
Youssouf Mulumbu was able to strike back for the Baggies.
Reid, however, claimed that West Brom will able to come back from their third defeat of the season and respond positively in their next game, against Manchester City.
'Never-say-die attitude'
He told the BBC that: "We've got a never-say-die attitude. We lost 6-0 at Chelsea and people were writing us off. We picked ourselves up after that result, we've got to brush this one under the carpet and look forward to Manchester City on Sunday.
"I think we've got positives to take from the game. We showed great spirit, good character, we didn't let it affect us and in the end we're all devastated that we didn't nick a point.
"Going 2-0 down with nine men, you would think you were dead and buried, but Youssouf's scored a great goal, we've created a couple of good chances and we continued playing the way we do.
"At times we still played some decent football, even with nine men."
