West Coast U19: Antony Barlow-Sam Reeves beat James Alexander Kynaston-Matthew Adrian Smith
New Zealand’s Antony Barlow and Sam Reeves stamped their supremacy in Boy’s Doubles category when thrashed their compatriots James Alexander Kynaston and Matthew Adrian Smith at the 2012 West Coast U19 in New Zealand, on Saturday, June 23.
Barlow and Reeves, who were top seeds in Boy’s Doubles draw of the tournament, put up inspiring show of controlled and dominating play and easily overpowered their un-seeded opponents without facing even a meagre resistance in the court.
The higher ranked Barlow and Reeves started their run in a composed manner and took the first game with a good margin. Nevertheless, they showed a wonderful aggression in the second set and wrapped up victory in a lopsided fashion.
Kynaston and Smith, in the meanwhile, could not give a strong fight to their higher ranked challengers. They played good badminton but not enough to escape a straight-set defeat with a huge margin.
The top seeds played in a relaxed way in opening rallies of first game which helped the lower ranked Kynaston and Smith to match the pace and they remained close until the one-minute interval.
However, Barlow and Reeves geared up their speed and easily pushed their rivals on the back foot by executing strong pushes and powerful jumping smashes. They clinched the opening game with a decent margin of 21-16.
In the following set, Barlow and Reeves were on a different level as they did not let their lower ranked opponents to play attacking badminton this time.
The top seeds were in full control of the pace of rallies and they did not take much time in taking an impressive lead on the board until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Barlow and Reeves continued their positive and attacking play. They were technically and tactically too strong for Kynaston and Smith who could not catch up the huge deficit on the score board.
The top seeds were focused in the entire second game and won it easily with a one-sided margin of 21-10.
The aggressive Barlow and Reeves thrashed their challengers in two games by putting up a striking 21-16 and 21-10 score on the board.
