West Coast U19: Sam Reeves topples James Alexander Kynaston in Boy’s Singles showdown
New Zealand’s impressive young player Sam Reeves showed his brilliance in the court when he toppled his lower ranked compatriot James Alexander Kynaston in Boy’s Singles showdown at the 2012 West Coast U19 in New Zealand, on Saturday, June 23.
The aggressive Reeves, who was top seed in Boy’s Singles draw of the championship, showed his class and registered an easy win over his un-seeded opponent Kynaston by playing remarkable badminton.
The top seeded Reeves was at his very best when he played dominating game in the first set and took it easily. However, he had to work hard in the second game and secured it with a tight margin to end up the match in straight games.
Kynaston, on the other hand, could not show a strong character in the court as he failed to win any set despite giving a good fight in the second game and eventually lost to his higher ranked team-mate with a respectable margin.
In the opening game, the higher ranked Reeves started his run in an inspiring fashion as he played with precision and remained ahead of his rival on the score board.
In the meanwhile, Kynaston tried to show his class by hitting the bird hard but he failed to beat the impressive defence of his top seeded opponent and remained trailing until the end of opening half.
After the break, Reeves continued playing with precision as he did not let his rival to anticipate the shots at any stage and remained in complete control.
The impressive speed and variations helped Reeves to take the first game with comfortable 21-15 margin on the score board.
In the second game, Kynaston changed his tactics in the court as he pushed his rival away from the net by hitting flat shots and managed to stop the aggression of Reeves who was a little sluggish in the opening half.
However, the top seeded Reeves managed to take over the charge from his opponent at the ending points of second game and won it with a close score of 21-19.
Reeves won this interesting Boy’s Singles battle in straight games with a 21-15 and 21-19 score on the board.
