West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce urges Tottenham Hotspur to speed up their chase for Scott Parker

Sam Allardyce, the West Ham United manager who replaced Avram Grant as the club manager after the Hammers were relegated last season, urged English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur not to wait to sign Scott Parker. The Spurs, along with London rivals

The 30-year-old midfielder was highly impressive for the Hammers last season, but unfortunately could not save them from relegation. Parker made 40 appearances in all competitions for West Ham last season, scoring 7 goals and earned himself a short listing
for the PFA Player of the Year Award. Even though he did not manage to win the prestigious PFA award, he was named as the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year.
Since West Ham’s relegation Scott Parker is looking for a move away, preferably to a Premier League side. While the Blues are in the market for midfielders, especially since their regular holding midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294 picked up a long-term injury, Tottenham
are also looking to strengthen their squad over the summer.
Since Parker is a former Chelsea player, it is understood he does not wish to return to Stamford Bridge, which automatically makes Spurs favourites to sign the Englishman. However, Allardyce revealed that the London side could miss out on Parker if they
did not act fast, claiming he did not expect the transfer to go through in the final stages of the transfer window.
Allardyce said in an interview:
“It is a worry that Spurs might wait until the last minute because it would be the wrong time to do it.
If they want to come and do it then, I will be telling the chairmen it is the most expensive time and not the cheapest.
So if Harry is listening, or anyone at Tottenham, watch out, don't be waiting that long because you won't be able to do it.”
Allardyce confirmed there had been no official from either side for Parker, but insisted he would only accept a bid if he felt it was appropriate. The former Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 boss said he would not be pushed into selling the in-demand midfielder to either
side unless he felt the right amount of money was offered. Allardyce continued:
“There are no bids for Scott at the moment so we continue to improve him as if he is going to start the season in our team, until such time as somebody bids the right money that would be acceptable to the club.”
Parker signed with West Ham United for a fee of £7 million from Newcastle United in the summer of 2007. Even though he missed the first few months because of injury, he managed to cement his place in the first team by his second season at the club. He has
made a total of 125 appearances in all competitions for West Ham United in four seasons, scoring 11 goals.
