West Ham United captain Mathew Upson out for rest of the Premier League 2010-11 season
West Ham United skipper and centre half Mathew Upson has been ruled out for the rest of the Premier League 2010-11 season due to an Achilles injury.
Mathew Upson suffered the injury during West Ham United’s defeat against Birmingham City and had to leave the pitch on the stretcher. It was initially feared that the Hammers’ skipper would be out for four to six weeks.
However, West Ham United have been told by specialists that the English defender would not take any part in their Barclays Premier League survival campaign. The news would come as a huge blow to the Hammers, as they are trying to escape the relegation zone
in the League.
West Ham United are currently placed at the bottom of the Premier League table and have been struggling to keep themselves out of the demotion zone since the start of the season.
Moreover, the latest injury to Upson has also put his West Ham future into jeopardy. His current contract with the Hammers is set to expire by the end of the current season and this injury could potentially signal the end of the 30-year-old England international’s
