West Ham United midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger out for four months
West Ham United has suffered a blow after receiving the news that midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger will be out of action for four months due to a thigh problem.
The player, who joined the English Premier League club in the summer, has yet to make his debut for the Hammers after sustaining an injury while playing for Germany in a friendly against Denmark on August 11, just three days before the EPL kicked-off.
He had been set to play for West Ham for the first time in the EPL clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday, October 16, but
The Sun has since reported that his thigh muscle has become completely detached from the bone.
Despite the severity of the injury, it is not believed that his career is under any threat and the prognosis indicates that he should make a return in February.
The news could hardly have come at a worse time for West Ham. They are rooted at the bottom of the table, having picked up just five points from seven games, and certainly have used the talents of Hitzlsperger as they bid to win some games and move out of
the relegation zone.
Avram Grant's first signing
The 28-year-old became West Ham manager Avram Grant’s first signing at the club when he arrived in June from Serie A side Lazio on a free transfer. He penned a three-year deal with the London club.
Hitzlsperger began his career with another EPL club, Aston Villa, with whom he gained his nickname, ‘der Hammer’, for his powerful left foot, which he could use to shoot accurately from long range.
He moved on to Stuttgart in 2005, with whom he won the Bundesliga title in the 2006-07 season, before making the switch to Lazio in January this year.
Hitzlsperger has also made 52 appearances for his country and was part of the side that finished third at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
