West Ham United relegated from the English Premier League – EPL news
West Ham United have been relegated from the English Premier League after the club’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic at the DW stadium on May 15, 2011.
At the moment, the Londoners are rooted to the foot of the English Premier League after collecting just 33 points from 37 matches.
The Hammers had a fantastic start to the game as striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charles-c8808 N’Zogbia and a Conor Sammon strike, which enabled
the Latics to get a crucial victory in their own quest of Premier League survival.
West Ham’s co-owner http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Gold has expressed his disappointment and labelled the Hammers drop to the npower Championship as the ‘worst moment’ since he began supporting the club.
He said on his Twitter page, "I honestly believed with the players we brought in January, plus the imminent return of [Thomas] Hitzlsperger, we had done enough to pull clear of danger. I had confidence that we would retain our Premiership status. This is
undoubtedly the worst moment in all the years I've been supporting West Ham and of course I wish I'd done things differently."
As a consequence of the Hammers’ exit from the Premier League, manager Avram Grant has been sacked by the club. The 56-year-old certainly is having a dismal time in his managerial career as in the 2009/10 season Grant was in charge of Portsmouth who were
relegated to the Championship as well.
Statement on West Ham’s official website said, "The club can confirm that Avram Grant is no longer the manager of West Ham United”.
Furthermore, Grant has accepted responsibility for West Ham’s plight and apologised to the fans. The Israeli added that he had many problems in season but after all football is a results’ game and the club was not able to get the necessary results to stay
in England’s top league.
Meanwhile, First team coach Kevin Keen will be in charge of the club as the Hammers will host Sunderland for their final game on the season on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/May-22-c39884, 2011.
