West Ham United set to sign Inter Milan striker
English Premier League outfit West Ham United are said to be ready to complete the signing of Inter Milan’s Victor Obinna today.
The striker is reported to have undergone a medical with the London club yesterday, while British newspaper The Sun said that the 23-year-old is expected to sign a loan deal with the club today.
It was reported earlier in the week that the player had been in talks with West Ham over personal terms of the transfer and it appears that those talks have proven successful.
West Ham boss Avram Grant has been eager to boost his options in the attacking department after his side scored only once in their defeats to Aston Villa and Bolton in the first two league fixtures of the campaign. They also barely overcame Football League Two side Oxford United in the Carling Cup on Tuesday — the only goal in the match coming in injury time from midfielder Scott Parker.
Tough games ahead
With matches against Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in their next four league fixtures, Grant is desperate to bring in more firepower to help his side grab some points.
Grant has been linked with a succession of strikers throughout the summer, such as Thierry Henry, Loic Remy and Felipe Caciedo of Manchester City. West Ham have also made three bids for Everton forward Yakubu, all of which were rejected by the Goodison Park outfit.
Obinna was hailed by his former Inter manager Jose Mourinho as a star of the future when he made his debut with the club two years ago after joining from Chievo. However, he failed to live up to that praise and was loaned out to La Liga outfit Malaga last season. He has featured in 34 games for Nigeria and scored 11 goals for his country.
