West Ham United striker Demba Ba has been racially abused at the team’s season ending dinner after a fan was denied an autograph.
Only days after suffering the humiliation of being relegated to the Championship, West Ham now find themselves at the centre of a racism row.
West Ham were relegated from the Premier League after suffering a shock 3-2 defeat at the hands of fellow strugglers, Wigan.
The Hammers gave themselves a fighting chance of survival when they raced to a 2-0 half time lead but a shocking second half performance saw the Latics stage a remarkable comeback. A late injury time header by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Charles-c8808 N’Zogbia condemned
West Ham to a defeat and in turn relegation from the Premier League.
On Tuesday, news emerged that the London Metropolitan police had to be called at the club’s season ending dinner on Monday when there was an apparent brawl. Just a few hours ago, it emerged that one of West Ham’s players was racially
abused at the dinner.
A reporter from the BBC claimed that West Ham’s striker, Demba Ba was the target of a racial abuse at the Monday’s 275-pound-per-head dinner at the London’s Grosvenor Hotel.
The trouble seemed to have started when a West Ham player refused to sign an autograph for a fan. The London http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Police-c40244 claimed that there were no arrests made last night.
West Ham co-owner http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Sullivan later revealed that the problem flared when a drunken fan racially abused a player after having been refused to be given an autograph.
“It was one individual who had too much to drink, sadly a problem in British society. Sadly one drunken supporter let the club down, a player was racially abused by the same drunken supporter, which is not acceptable,” said Sullivan.
A statement from the Metropolitan police said, “We were called at 2115 BST to reports of a disturbance at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane. Officers attended. There were no offences alleged and no arrests.”
