West Ham United vice-chairman backs Avram Grant
Karren Brady, vice-chairman of West Ham United, has backed manager Avram Grant to retain his job as the team's season continues.
Grant, who joined West Ham after leading Portsmouth to last season's FA Cup final, has only collected nine points in 13 games for his team this season.
West Ham are currently languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, having won only one game and lost six so far.
Despite the team's poor form, Brady said that Grant is still favoured by the board, which nonetheless expected better results to come.
"We haven't even had the discussion about whether Avram is going to be here or not," Brady told
BBC Radio 5 live. "Weak-minded people press the panic button, but at the same time we didn't want to just survive this season."
Brady, who is also managing director of Birmingham City, added that part of the work to be done for the team's recovery should be carried out by the club board.
"Not only is [Grant] going to keep his job, but we also accept that we have responsibility. We are the board, we put our hands in our pockets. There are other things that can happen in terms of lifting
the spirit, and bringing a sense of calm. That very much comes from the top."
Likely to shop in January
West Ham is one of many clubs expected to be active in the January transfer window.
Keen to strengthen his attacking line, Grant has been linked with a move for Barcelona's Bojan Krkic and Loic Remy of Olympique de Marseille.
"January gives us the ideal opportunity to do things help our football team," said Brady. "We feel that it takes time. We're trying to encourage everybody that the season is not over yet. We did quite
a bit of [transfer] business in the summer, but obviously not enough."
