West Highland Terriers: Good family dog?

Question

We are a family of five. My oldest is 7 yrs, then 2yrs and 2 month old. We want a family dog. One that is very playful and yet kind of protective with the family. E.g. will alert us when someone's at the door.

Please advise if you own a WHT. Are they hard to manage?

well the west highland is a GREAT family dog but it is small and might nip when it plays . if i were you i would get a german sheperd though they are big they do not mind being played with by small children and are not aggressive at all i would wait until your youngest is at least 6-7
