West Indian pacer Jerome http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 chose IPL for a safe future
West Indian pacer, Jerome Taylor, claimed that he accepted the offer from the Indian Premier League (IPL) considering that he was being ignored by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 Cricket Board (WICB) for selection.
He is currently representing the Pune Warriors http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Taylor claimed, “I asked the WICB for an NOC (no-objection certificate) since I wasn't a contracted player with the WICB. I didn't get selected in the 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup, which none of the selectors said anything to me about.”
The 26-year-old further added, “I wasn't sure I was going to be selected so I had to keep my options open. It was a case where I didn't want to be at home, waiting to be selected, not get picked and let this opportunity pass me for a third year in a row.”
Taylor revealed that he had contacted the cricket authorities in the Caribbean on many occasions, but wasn’t contacted once by any official. He claimed to be fit enough to represent his side in the ICC World Cup 2011, but was ignored for selection back then.
He was also not considered for the series against Pakistan and this forced him to join the lucrative league in India.
Many senior players have expressed their unhappiness over the behaviour of the WICB. Explosive batsman, Chris Gayle, was also one of the players who chose the IPL over national duty.
However, the aggressive batsman claimed he was ill-treated by the board and came to India once he was ignored by the cricket authorities in the Caribbean.
Some other senior players, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shivnarine-Chanderpaul-c90073 and Ramnaresh Sarwan, were left out of the series against Pakistan, following a dismal show by the team in the World Cup. The latter was then recalled to the team once the team continued its miserable show
against the visitors.
West Indies have already lost the five-match One Day International (ODI) by a margin of 3-2 and will host a two-match Test series now, starting from Thursday, May 12, 2011.
It will be ideal for the team to bring some experience in the side in order to pressurise Pakistan.
