West Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Julius-Garvey-Sammy-c52468 urges his team to be confident and aggressive
After being comprehensively beaten in the first One Day International of the Digicel Series, Caribbean skipper, Darren Sammy, urged his team-mates to play with confidence and aggression in the second ODI against the World Champions.
Ahead of their second match, at the same venue, the Port of Spain, Sammy has highlighted that confidence and aggression are the need of the hour in order to rescue the Caribbean ship.
Sammy said "We lack aggression; to be aggressive you still need the confidence. Maybe we can show a bit more intent against the spinners. When our spinners pinned down India, they showed intent towards us."
In the inaugural ODI of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, the World Champions served the hosts with an impressive beating of four-wickets.
The hosts managed to put up a decent total of 214/9 in their limited quota of 50-overs. However, later it seemed that the target was not enough to challenge the batting might of team India.
The Men in Blue easily chased this target in 44.5 overs, to claim their first victory of the series.
Later on Sammy realized that the batsmen did not perform up to their potential and should have piled up more runs to challenge the visitors.
Earlier, the 27-year-old Windies skipper, who has appeared in 13 tests and 59 ODIs for his national side, expressed his hope about performing well in the second innings, "Our guys are practicing. It's about transferring all these things in the middle. When
you look at all the dot balls - we have lots of boundary hitters - when you are not getting boundaries and not rotating the strike, the batsmen get under pressure."
It seems that the hosts are greatly missing the likes of their senior campaigner and opening batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221, who recently returned home after having a prolific IPL Season.
However, due to his dispute with West Indian Cricket Board he is not playing in the current squad.
A prompt resolution between the 31-year-old Gayle and the West Indian Cricket Board is expected soon, as a meeting is scheduled between both the parties.
Tuesday also proved a lucky day for Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754 as they bagged Test Player of the Year, ODI Player of the Year and Twenty20 Player of the Year awards respectively. The three of them were honored by the West Indies Players
Association.
